Performance Tuning - why possible?
Control units have been built into engines since the 90s. These control units initially only had simple functions. In the beginning, only information about the amount of fuel and the time of injection was passed on to the nozzles by signal. Because a vehicle is built globally today and has to withstand fuel in South America just as much as the African heat or the coldness of Siberia, the engine has correspondingly large tolerances! SKN uses these tolerances and adapts the engine to the respective regional conditions. The engine then works more effectively and efficiently. The engine control unit is becoming increasingly important. The engine control unit is now responsible for the entire engine management. It controls, controls and regulates all important functions of an engine. Application parameters (load condition, outside temperature, air quality, air density, engine, oil and coolant temperature) must be analyzed and evaluated depending on driving data (engine speed, boost pressure, speed).
The engine control unit processes all this data 'just in time' in order to set the optimal operating status for the engine. In the engine control unit, the data is processed in a program and a database (maps) depending on these various parameters (supplied from sensors and sensors). In this way, the injection quantity and ignition timing are continuously passed on to the engine.
This program or the database are located in one or more modules in the control unit. Due to the engine-specific distribution of the performance data, an engine has different performance reserves that can be optimized through analysis and fine adjustment. The person skilled in the art calls the analysis and optimization of these characteristic diagrams 'CHIP tuning'. SKN is one of the longest operating service providers on the global market.
